Xarelto: Popular Blood Thinner May Be Harmful To Health

When a doctor encounters a patient that is at high risk for developing blood clots and stroke, they often will prescribe an anticoagulant (blood thinner). One of the most popular of these types of medications is Xarelto. The downside of this medication is that it has been linked to internal bleeding that cannot be reversed. This uncontrollable bleeding can cause serious issues including death.

BACKGROUND ON XARELTO

As mentioned before, Xarelto is a blood thinning medication used to prevent dangerous blood clots. What separates Xarelto from other similar medications is that it has just one form and can only be taken orally.  Some other types of anticoagulants can be prescribed in custom doses from a patient’s doctor. It has been approved by the FDA to treat people who have had hip replacements or knee replacements to decrease the chances of clotting and stroke. Also, the drug is prescribed to patients that have deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism. Even though there are many serious dangers to using Xarelto, sales have skyrocketed to over one billion dollars.

THE DANGERS OF XARELTO

Anticoagulants are nothing new and many have been used quite safely for numerous ailments. The unfortunate fact is very few people are aware of the danger Xarelto poses. Some of the dangers reported from Xarelto use include:

Irreversible anticoagulant effects: It has no “off switch” once adverse side affects are discovered. As a result, hemorrhaging can occur until the drug is out of the patient’s system.

Undetected Problems Due To Prescription.: Since it can be prescribed without regular monitoring of a patients blood, any side affect can go unnoticed until it is too late. Bayer and Johnson & Johnson tout this “no monitoring” feature as a positive to prescribing the drug. In reality, if many of the injured patients had their blood monitored early on, they could have been helped.

Even though the evidence is heavily stacked against Bayer and Johnson & Johnson, the drug still is distributed to this day. The manufacturers stand by their claim that the drug is completely safe and a better alternative to other anticoagulants available. If you or a loved one has been prescribed this dangerous drug, please be very cautious and ask your doctor for an alternative and have your blood checked regularly.
