A Houston native, Stephen MacFarlane brings a unique perspective to personal injury law, shaped by years of litigation experience and a strong background in service and discipline. His practice is defined by strategic thinking, thorough preparation, and a deep understanding of how cases are evaluated from both sides of the courtroom.
Stephen earned his Bachelor of Arts in History, magna cum laude, from the University of St. Thomas in 2012, where he was also a member of the university’s Mock Trial Team. He went on to earn his Juris Doctor from Texas A&M University School of Law in 2018 and was licensed to practice law in Texas later that year.
Stephen began his legal career representing Houston homeowners in property tax disputes, securing more than one million dollars in tax savings for his clients. He later spent over five years as a defense litigator representing corporations, defense contractors, and insurance companies in a wide range of disputes, including personal injury, first-party insurance, maritime, and disability cases. This defense-side experience gives Stephen valuable insight into how insurance carriers and opposing counsel evaluate and challenge claims. Today, he applies that knowledge to anticipate defense strategies, strengthen cases from the outset, and advocate effectively for those seeking justice and fair compensation.
In addition to his legal career, Stephen has proudly served in the United States Navy for more than 18 years as a Master-at-Arms Second Class, including three years on active duty and continued service in the reserves. During law school, he deployed to the Middle East in support of Operation Inherent Resolve, earning the designation of Enlisted Expeditionary Warfare Specialist. His military service has taken him across the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and Europe, further shaping the discipline and perspective he brings to his legal work.
Outside of the office, Stephen enjoys both playing and watching sports and is a dedicated fan of the Houston Astros and Rockets. He and his wife, Sarah, enjoy exploring new restaurants and experiences around Houston. Stephen’s favorite role, however, is being a father to his children, Grace and Thomas, and he especially enjoys making them laugh and sharing conversations about history. At home, he also spends time with the family’s cat, Astro, and their dog, Lilly the Pickledog.
